As a travel agency Wari Tours is very aware of our unique position as a bridge connecting two cultures, where mostly foreign visitors meet the beautiful ancestral Andean traditions and people. We have also realized the opportunities this position brings to address a pressing issue present in the Cusco area, which is that of gender inequality.
Girls and women here suffer from more discrimination and violence, as well as having reduced access to education, health care, fairly remunerated work and representation in politics. With all this in mind, we decided to take action ourselves by designing a program to make a small contribution to combating the issue of unequal income for women, which we called “Walking with the Warmi Warriors”.
Below you’ll find an outline of the international and national frameworks within which the issue of gender inequality is being addressed, followed by more details of the program and a link to a wonderful blog post written by a tourist that has already taken part in the “Walking with the Warmi Warriors” program.
